Calls to Senators

The Biscuit-Siskiyou Wild Rivers need toll-free calls to Congress now!

The legal case to stop Biscuit salvage logging in federal court is strong. There is good reason to believe that much of the plan could be stopped temporarily or even permanently by a federal judge. Oddly enough, that could lead to a new problem. Congress could choose to pass legislation or a legislative rider that would suspend environmental laws and push logging forward. In fact, some environmental groups are so worried about a rider that they are questioning whether the entire timber sale or just parts should be litigated.

It is crucial that we tell Congress now that we want the Biscuit-Siskiyou Wild Rivers protected and no special riders that would push logging through. Many believe that the Senate will be the key venue for such legislation and Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) will be the key Senator.

Below you will find a toll-free number that will connect you with the Capitol switchboard during East Coast business hours. Just ask for the Senator you want: Wyden and Gordon Smith (R-OR) are key for Oregon residents. It is also especially important for California residents to call Senators Boxer and Feinstein and for Washington residents to call Senators Murray and Cantwell. All four of these women are Democrats but none are yet very familiar with the issue.

It takes about one minute per call! Toll-free 1-800-839-5276.
