The Forest Service and the Bush administration, acting against the majority of public comments in an irresponsible and potentially illegal manner, sold the Fiddler timber sale to Silver Creek logging co., known for cutting illegally in a wilderness area and for harming sensitive old growth areas. This is a plan to log as much as 370 million board feet from Fiddler and other sale areas, setting a precedent for the largest timber sale in modern history in the middle of of an election year. The plan is to clearcut in sensitive old growth patches and around much loved hiking trails such as the Babyfoot Lake, Fall Creek trail, and others. The Biscuit Alliance has begun monitoring timber sale units around FIddler Mountain and are planning to meet the day logging begins. We hope more groups based outside the area can join us in showing opposition to this extreme timber sale.
The Fiddler Mountain area is located a few miles south of Selma (north of Cave Junction, OR on Hwy 199) up eight dollar mountain road towards the Babyfoot Lake trailhead. The specific location will be announced shortly. Bring camping gear, food, and lots of water.
